BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Memorial weekend is a perfect time for parties. It's also a time when law enforcement increases its presence on our roads. The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2015 Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement Period Friday at 6 p.m.
Checkpoints will be set up statewide, and officers will be looking for drunk drivers, people who are not buckled up and people who are disobeying traffic laws. Troopers are asking motorists to make responsible decisions that not only ensure safe travel, but also allow families to have a safe and joyous holiday weekend. The enforcement period ends at midnight on Monday.
During the holiday weekend in 2014, MP investigated three fatal accidents, and made 132 DUI arrests.
