BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - St. Stanislaus pitcher Greer Holston was a little shaky in the top of the first inning against Houston Wednesday night after giving up a triple, a single and a pass ball that had the Hilltoppers jump out on top 2-0.
Holston settled down and gave up six hits on the night, one earned run and seven strikeouts to post the victory.
Greer says the Rockachaws coaching staff led by mark Logan is top notch and has been a major factor in leading St. Stanislaus to the Class 5A State Finals.
Holston said, "I think we have the best coaching staff out there. Everything is awesome. I think the coaches do a great job, of not only teaching us baseball but learning how to grow into men."
Holston helped his own cause Wednesday by banging out two hits in four trips to the plate and had one RBI.
Game two is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Trustmark Park and Tulane signee Jonathan Artigues will get the starting call on the mound. The senior has been getting the job done all season long but knows it's not time to celebrate because it ain't over yet.
"It's a great feeling but this is our big goal and our big goal is not done, "stated Artigues.
Artigues can help get it done Friday night beginning at seven in Pearl.
The game will be televised live on the WLOX Bounce Channel.
