OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) -

The owners of The Shed Barbeque and Blues Joint are still on a high after bringing home one of the most prestigious barbecue awards in the nation. They won the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. The Shed crew said they're confident this award will help boost business and put South Mississippi on the map.

Owner Brad Orrison can't stop staring and touching the supersized trophy.

"This is the grand championship trophy from Memphis in May. This is a dream come true for The Shed and the State of Mississippi," said Brad.

His mom, Linda, is just as proud.

"When they said, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, your 2015 International, World Grand Champions, The Shed,' everybody cried," Linda said.

The Shed crew has competed in the popular barbecue competition nine times, but never won the ultimate title.

"It is so fiercely competitive that you can win or lose a position by five hundredths of a point. There are only three categories in Memphis in May: Shoulder, hog and ribs, and the whole hog is the toughest one, of course," said Linda.

The barbecue enthusiasts went up against hundreds of teams, but were confident their finger licking barbecue pork would help them prevail.

"Our seasonings are powerful, but yet mild enough to impart that barbecue flavor, that barbecue flavor profile that I am literally in someone's backyard that knows how to cook, and it was that old school barbecue test that brought us above the rest," said Brad.

Brad and his sister, Brooke, opened their first Shed restaurant in Ocean Springs back in 2001.

"We have been through fires, floods and a Food Network series, and we have been through just about everything, but this encapsulates what we do to the highest," said Brad.

The champs said they'll work harder to offer the best down home barbecue to everyone who walks through the door, so even more people can brag about South Mississippi and that they were fed at The Shed.
