GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The City of Gulfport is taking steps to create a visitor's center. The formation of the visitor's center was approved Tuesday.
This new center will be located in Grass Lawn's annex building. That's the brick building located on the east side of the property off Highway 90.
According to Gulfport's Economic Development Director David Parker, there isn't a visitor's center in between Biloxi and Bay St. Louis. Parker said the visitor's center won't only promote Gulfport's events and attractions, but activities in other cities.
"It's a small space, but it will be a very important place for tourists to stop and get information to find out everything that there is to do here on the coast. If you look at it right now tourism is our number one economic engine," said Parker.
Parker said he hopes to have the visitor's center open by the end of this summer.
Despite the visitor's center being located on Grass Lawn, the main building will still be available for events.
