Joe's Viewpoint: Honoring our officers

Joe Sciortino Joe Sciortino
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Reflecting over the events of the past week, I am so proud of our local law enforcement and of our community. I can honestly say that I have taken them for granted at times. The critical and selfless role they play in our lives and the tremendous sacrifice of their families for many of us has not been top of mind each day. And then, watching the outpouring of support from around the nation as hundreds have traveled here to pay respect to our fallen officers – Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate has been inspiring. They honored us with their service and we want to honor them by supporting the families they have left behind. The team here at WDAM will be conducting a fundraiser next Tuesday to benefit The City of Hattiesburg Memorial Fund set up by Mayor Dupree and HPD called the Deen and Tate Memorial Fund. Check out our website and newscasts for information on how you can help. God bless those who put themselves in harm's way for us every single day.

This is today's viewpoint.
