Matt Moorehead Day In Pascagoula Raises Thousands For Family

Hundreds gathered at the Church on the Rock in Pascagoula Saturday to show their support for a local family in need.

With each dinner sold,19 year-old Matt Moorehead is one step closer to recovery.

His family is one step closer to living a normal life.

"The whole way through I've been able to keep myself together by saying, it's going to be all right, it's going to be all right, it's gonna'," Sister Lauren Moorehead says.

But knowing Matt's condition and knowing recovery is still months away, Ashley and Lauren Moorehead can't help but shed tears.

"He's my baby brother. I don't know what I'd do without him," Ashley Moorehead says.

"I've been around him since the accident and he hasn't been able to say anything," Lauren Moorehead says.

The therapy their brother needs will cost the family 1,500 dollars a day.

Take that number and stretched it over a six month period.

The Moorehead family is looking at an almost 300,000 dollar medical bill.

"On top of worrying about their son and their family, they realize this could bankrupt them," Church on the Rock Pastor Roger Bradley says.

To keep that from happening, Bradley planned this event.

Although not everyone here knows the Moorehead family personally.

"His sister's finance is my next door neighbor," Pascagoula resident Sarah Dinwiddie says.

The church says community support has been tremendous, and the Moorehead family can't say 'thank you' enough.

"It makes you proud of the community that people care and they'll work this hard to do this sort of thing," Lauren Moorehead says.
