A "Super Bowl" of Chili

The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles will face off in the biggest football game of the year. If you're planning on holding a Super Bowl Party to watch the match-up, or looking for something easy and delicious to munch on during the game, here's a hearty idea for you.  Chef Ed Hawn from Steve's Marina in Long Beach shares his recipe for:

"A Super Bowl of Chili"

  • 1 lb. Ground Beef, cooked
  • 1 lb. Stew Meat, cooked
  • 1 lb. Black Beans
  • 2 lb. Onions
  • 2 T Garlic
  • 1/2 stalk Celery
  • 3 Bell Peppers
  • 1 Poblano Pepper
  • 2  Anneheim Peppers
  • 3 Jalapeno Peppers
  • 3 Seranno Peppers
  • 2 small cans Rotel Tomato and Green Chilis

To taste:

  • Chili Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Red, White, Black Pepper
  • Oregano
  • Paprika
  • Crushed Red Pepper
  • Creole Seasoning
  • Corn Flour
  • 8 cups water


  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Sour Cream
  • Green Onions
  • Assorted Peppers
  • Chips
  • Crackers


Spice Beef with a heavy hand.  Sautee in 2 T oil until well browned. Add Onions, Peppers, Garlic, Celery. Sautee 10 minutes.  Add Rotel Tomatoes and Black Beans. Add Water.  Simmer 2 to 2-1/2 hours, stirring occassionally until done. Garnish.
