Old Grocery Store To Become New Church

An Ocean Springs Church will soon have a permanent home.

Tuesday night, city aldermen voted five-to-two in favor of plans to build the Fellowship Church at an old shopping center off Highway 90.

An overflowing crowd of parishoners showed up to hear the ruling.

The city's planning commission originally rejected the church's request to use the space where the old Jitney Jungle once stood.

Senior Pastor Brad Robertson hopes to relocate into the building in the next few months.

"Immediately we are going to go into building, and we'll have a financial campaign at our church to offset any of the cost of the building. Hopefully we will be in the building in six months, if not sooner."

Until construction for the new church is complete, the congregation of about 400-500 will continue to meet at St. Martin High School.
