PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -

The Jersey Krewe was back in Pass Christian, Sunday. For 10 years, members of the Kearny, New Jersey Fire Department have made their way to the St. Paul Carnival Association parade to celebrate with Rusty Necaise and family.

After Hurricane Katrina destroyed Necaise's home on Henderson Point, the New Jersey firefighters came down and rebuilt the home.

"It was love at first sight," said New Jersey firefighter Tommy Atwell. "We enjoyed ourselves and come down here every year for 10 years now. We really, really enjoy the family and a friendship was made that will never be broken."

Necaise sold Jersey Krewe T-shirts for this year's parade that indicates the bond between Mississippi, New Jersey and Mardi Gras. The extended family continues to grow.

"They came in when we needed them 10 years ago," Necaise said. "And since then, it's a family. Every year we go there, they come here. Whatever we need to do to help each other, that's what we're going to do. Mardi Gras is just a bonus."

Also celebrating were buddies Lenny Keel, Frank Allen and Mark Rittner who have partnered up for 15 years to bring family and friends together at the Pass Parade.

"It's been a nice time," Allen said. "Every year, we get together and have a good time."

"Some of these folks we don't see all year long and we get together," Keel said.

"And our families," Rittner added. "We have all of our kids come in. No grandkids yet but we're working on it."

Paradegoers crowded shoulder to shoulder along the parade route.

This is the 85th year for the St. Paul Carnival Association and the 101st year that the parade has rolled in Pass Christian.

King Christian Raul "Roy" Gamez and Queen Christiana Shae Hilton ruled over the festivities.

The St. Paul parade featured 78 units this year with plenty of music to dance to and throws to wear. The theme this year is Heroes Among Us. A good name for the Jersey Krewe.
