BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

After more than a century of rolling, the Gulf Coast Carnival Association parade has become a staple on the Coast. Every year leading up to the big day, the question becomes, who will reign over the festivities?

Now, we have the answer.

This year's King and Queen both have strong ties with the carnival association. Queen Ixolib of 2015 is Alexa Carter. She follows in the footsteps of her sister, Christina, Queen in 2012, and father, Rick, King in 2009. ‘

Carter said she's overwhelmed and can't believe she's getting the opportunity to see herself in the Queen's dress. "

You know today, actually putting it on, I didn't think I would have the reaction. You know, I kind of wanted to cry a little bit, but I had a little tear going," said Carter.

Carter lives in Nashville, pursuing her music career. She is sharing the throne with King D'Iberville, David Riemann, of Riemann Funeral Homes. To prepare, he has been getting his throwing arm ready to go.

"I have been exercising this right arm, and I do have those who are going to serve and hand me my beads," said Riemann.

Following in the footsteps of past Kings is something that Riemann said he will never forget.

"It's just an honor to follow them and to continue the legacy that's been created over all these many years," said Riemann.

The association has been going strong since 1908. According to the Queen, the goal of the season has remained the same.

"You know, this whole Mardi Gras season is about all of us coming together and having a great time and creating lifelong friends and memories. So, throughout Mardi Gras, I'm just going to be making sure everyone is doing that and having an amazing time," said Carter.

The GCCA parade rolls on Fat Tuesday at 1 p.m. starting at Howard Avenue and Main Street. If you can't get to the parade, WLOX will live broadcast the parade on WLOX ABC and live stream it on WLOX.com
