Brett Favre announced in a message posted on his official website that he's heading back to Green Bay for a special day.
"I'm pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey. It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. Now to have my name placed among others such as Starr, Hornung, Kramer, Taylor, Lambeau, Nitschke, Lombardi, Davis, White and Hutson is a special honor that I share with all my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest GM in the history of the NFL. I'm truly looking forward to celebrating and sharing this special moment with all the great fans of the Green Bay Packers. Go Packers!"
Favre turned bitter when the Packers decided to go with Aaron Rogers as the Packers starting quarterback. Brett announced his retirement in March of 2008 but would not be out of football too long. He signed a deal with the New York Jets in August of 2008.
Wanting one more shot at a Super Bowl after leading the Packers to the 1997 Super Bowl title in New Orleans, Favre signed a contract with Minnesota and nearly got his wish before the Saints knocked-off the Vikings in the 2009 NFC Championship in the Superdome. He played one more season with the Vikings before he officially retired in 2011.
Green Bay fans turned on Favre after he decided to come out of retirement and play with the Jets and later with the Vikings.
After years of coldness Favre, the Packers franchise and the Green Bay fans will welcome Brett back for a special night on July 18. Favre will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and his jersey #4 will be unveiled inside Lambeau Field at a later date to be determined at a Packers home game.
It's definitely going to be a dramatic homecoming for Favre and all Packers fans.
Football fans who followed Brett during his days at Hancock North Central High School and at Southern Miss will also be awaiting that special day in July.
