PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -

Many travelers prefer the peace and tranquility of a bed and breakfast over the hustle and bustle of a hotel. The bed and breakfast industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and South Mississippi is part of that trend.

A new bed and breakfast in Pass Christian is using history to lure folks to the Mississippi Coast.

Blue Rose Mansion was built in 1848. It's one of the Coast's most historic structures.

Over those 167 years, the building has been a private residence, an antique shop and a restaurant.

The current owners have turned it into a combination wedding venue for ceremonies and receptions and a bed and breakfast.

Herb Pursley and his business partner, Phillip LeBlanc, use antique furnishings and ornate decorative features to transport visitors back in time.

"It has a lot of things people just don't see in houses anymore. We do have all the modern amenities, but with the furnishings and high ceilings, it gives people the feeling they're someplace else," said Pursley.

Overlooking the harbor, the Blue Rose stands on Scenic Drive in Pass Christian.

With five luxury suites, the owners of the Blue Rose are excited about including the bed and breakfast in their business plan.

They've already established a reputation in the wedding business, attracting people from near and far to South Mississippi.

"We do a tremendous amount of out of state weddings. We've had them from Alaska, Russia, England and many from the West Coast. I'm an ambassador to bring people from other states to see what we have to offer," Pursley said.

With plenty of property to play with, the Blue Rose plans to construct new buildings and add more rooms to the bed and breakfast, giving the charm and history of Pass Christian even more exposure.
