MDEQ: Waveland water contact warning

If you are heading to the beach in Waveland, beware. There's a section of the water that has high bacteria levels, and you don't want to swim in it. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has issued the water contact advisory from Oak Boulevard east to Favre Street.

MDEQ advises there's a higher risk of illness if you go swimming in this area and you should avoid any contact with the water along this stretch of beach.

MDEQ states, "when water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisory will be lifted. "The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ and notifies the agency when an area has returned to acceptable levels.
