Biloxi Shuckers will play the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park in Pearl in early May

MGM Park has come a long way since construction on the baseball stadium broke ground in last January.

Biloxi Shuckers general manager Buck Rogers says despite the quick pace of construction the local Double-A baseball team had to devise a backup plan, just in case the stadium won't be ready.  He says at least 15 games will be played in Huntsville, some games in Pearl, Mississippi and a series down in Jacksonville, Florida.

Rogers said, "You have to talk about hotels in both cities here and in Huntsville.  Buses, the travel involved, the moving of players around.  Where am I shipping uniforms?  Where does the team come in from spring training? Do we fly them into Pensacola where we start the season.  So many questions to be answered.  Logistically it's a huge undertaking."

The Shuckers open the season at Pensacola April 20 through the 24.  Rogers says the Shuckers will play a series in Pearl, Mississippi the first weekend of May.

"I'm working a deal with their GM up there and here's the beautiful thing...if you're from Biloxi and drive up for that series over Mothers Day weekend, he's going to let everybody from Biloxi in free, "stated Rogers.

Braves full season ticket holders will also be granted free admission for those games.  Fans from Biloxi will be admitted free by wearing Biloxi Shuckers merchandise.

The Biloxi Shuckers-Mississippi Braves first-ever series will be played at Trustmark Park in Pearl May 6-10. The games set for Wednesday, May 6 through Friday, May 8 are slated for 7:00 PM. Saturday, May 9 is set for 6:00 PM. The series on Mother's Day-Sunday, May 10 will begin at 1:00 PM.
