McDonald's customers across the country are feeling the love, including those dining right here in South Mississippi.

As part of the "Pay With Lovin'" campaign that runs through Feb. 13, specially selected customers are finding out there is such a thing as a free lunch.

With a taste for burgers and fries, Mario and Sade Davis stopped by the McDonald's on Lorraine Road in Gulfport. The couple soon found out that for this visit, no cash was needed. As winners of the “Pay With Lovin” campaign, their lunch was free.

"A couple of days ago, I watched it on TV, and I was telling my wife like they don't do that in Mississippi," said Mario Davis. "That's just on TV. That's why it came as a real surprise today."

During “Pay With Lovin,” each day a McDonald's restaurant will surprise some lucky customer between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The only price for their meal is showing a little love.

Jamie Harris works for the Descher Organization, which owns nearly two dozen restaurants.

"They come up and they order their food, and when they're done ordering, instead of them paying us, that's when we surprise them with the ‘Pay With Lovin' Campaign," said Harris.

"They have the option of a fist bump, a high five. Some of us do a dance out in the lobby with them," said Harris. "We make a big celebration of it. There's so many options. Anything positive. They can call a friend or family member and tell them they love them. Anything."

The Graves family, including mom, three brothers and a family friend, was also among those selected, and they chose to show the love in a group hug.

Joshua Graves said it's important to show love to those you love because, "you never know when it's the last time you're going to see somebody."

As for Mario Davis, “Pay with Lovin” saved him a little money and got him out of the doghouse with his wife.

"She's been fussing all day. I could use a little love," said Davis with a laugh.

All the restaurants owned by the Descher Organization are participating. Officials say the McDonald's corporate office determines at what time each day the winning customer will be selected.
