HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

On the seventh anniversary of the death of a man known only as John Doe, investigators hope a sketch will help them finally learn his identity.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department recently learned about the unidentified man and sheriff's investigators are trying to help the Mississippi Highway Patrol find out who John Doe is. One of the first things sheriff investigators did was send a picture of the man, from the night of the accident, to a forensic artist to get a sketch drawn so maybe someone would be able to recognize him.

"We want to find his family so we can give them closure," said Kristi Johnson, with the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. "Someone somewhere is missing him."

According to the accident report taken on Feb. 3, 2008, the unidentified man walked into the south bound lane of Highway 49 just passed Pine Tree Road around 8:15 in the evening when he was killed. Minutes before his death, Johnson said a store clerk said he had just been inside the nearby gas station.

Investigators believe the man was between 30 and 50 years old, standing six foot tall and weighing around 210 pounds. He had dark brown, wavy hair, brown eyes and a mustache described by a pathologist as a bushy red and brown gaucho mustache. John Doe did have his left ear pierced.

At the time of the accident, the man was wearing brown leather boots, black wrangler pants with a woven leather belt, and a yellow windbreaker jacket with a DeWalt racing emblem on it. He did not have a wallet or any identification on him. Only a pocket knife, Doral cigarettes, and a box of matches.

This man is one of eight other unidentified cases the Harrison County Sheriff's Department is trying to solve.

If you have any information on who this man may be, you are asked to call the sheriff's department at (228) 896-0678 or you can e-mail cold case investigators at http://harrisoncountysheriff.com.s153855.gridserver.com/department-divisions/cold-case-files/

For more information on the missing man, you can find him on the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System at https://identifyus.org/en/cases/13373

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
