BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Some Biloxi students took a unique field trip Tuesday. It was a walk through the organs of the human body.

The tour taught them about the dangers of obesity, smoking and bad dental hygiene. This exhibit actually allows students to walk into the mouth and enter the human body.

This week, all second graders in the Biloxi School District will get to experience the Body Walk. It's a 40 foot exhibit featuring nine stations.

"As you know, Mississippi has a huge obesity problem," said Body Walk coordinator Katie Bouchillon. "This is one way we're working to combat that, because if you can start a good habit with children while they're young, hopefully that good habit will follow them through their teenage years and into their adult years."

At each stop, the children get to learn about the organs in the human body like the brain, stomach, small intestine and heart.

"They hear a lesson, and they also get to participate in the lesson," said Bouchillon. "For example, when they go in the lung room, there's an activity where they can feel what it's like to have restricted breathing, so that sets up why they shouldn't smoke."

The activities are interactive and focus on making good food choices and developing a healthy lifestyle.

"In the mouth room, they actually get to brush the little teeth stools they're sitting on, because of course, they don't want cavities," Bouchillon said.

The Body Walk continues Wednesday at Jeff Davis Elementary.

At the end of the Body Walk, every student will get an activity book to take home to reinforce the lessons they've learned.
