LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

There's an unusual sight just east of the Long Beach harbor. Pictures sent to us by a WLOX viewer show a dredging pipe beached on the city's shoreline.

We contacted Harrison County's sand beach director who thinks that pipe broke free from the crew dredging Gulfport's shipping channel. He also told us the Coast Guard was aware of the wayward pipe, and that agency would be responsible for removing it.

But, he said Coast Guard crews must wait until high tide, when the 300 foot pipe floats back into the Mississippi Sound, before it can be snatched up. High tide is late Tuesday night, and again late Wednesday night.
