Ocean Springs and Gulfport meet once again for the 6A South State boys soccer championship

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - On Saturday Gulfport upended Terry 1-zip on this goal off the foot of Alexander Hopkins.  The Admirals got just enough offense and played excellent defense in keeping Terry out of the Gulfport net.

Ocean Springs defeated Oak Grove 2-nothing Friday night as Austin Evans and Sam Lawson used their leg power to eliminate the Warriors from the State Title chase.

Ocean Springs head coach says the Ocean Springs-Gulfport match up in the South State finals is to be expected.

"Seven times in the last 8 years the South representative in the State Championship has been Ocean Springs or Gulfport with the exception of last year being Brandon, "stated French. "So this is what you kind of expect when you get deep into the playoffs, South State, Ocean Springs verses Gulfport."

On November 17 Gulfport defeated Ocean Springs 2-0...but the rematch is a whole new soccer game...with a trip to the state finals on the line.

Admirals head coach Henrik Madsen said, "It's a good rivalry so that's always going to be a fun one.  So I hope there's a bunch of fans coming out to support and watch it because it's always exciting when it's Ocean Springs-Gulfport."

Gulfport's Jeff Bruni knows Ocean Springs has loads of talent. "They're always a challenging team, "stated Bruni. "They always have a great program, but I think our Admirals will come out on top.  Everything has been going for us and everything.  I think we'll do great against them."

Kyle Hillyard of Ocean Springs said, "Our defense is very solid. Our midfield is strong and our attacker...Stevie G...boy he's good."

Hillyard was talking about junior Steven Gallagher.

WLOX will have game highlights from area South State soccer finals tonight at 10.
