Governor Bryant to discuss Mississippi's teen pregnancy rate

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

The teen pregnancy rate in Mississippi is one of the highest in the nation. Later this morning, Governor Phil Bryant will be speaking at a community town hall meeting in Gautier focused on preventing and reducing teen pregnancy in the Magnolia State.

The meeting will be hosted by the Mississippi Girls Health Initiative and Healthy Teens for a Better Mississippi.

Healthy Teens for for a Better Mississippi is the initiative formed after Governor Bryant issued a directive to the Mississippi Department of Human Services and the Mississippi State Department of Health to develop a plan for preventing and reducing teen pregnancy in Mississippi.

According to healthteens.ms, the state agencies formed a task force of governmental and community leaders, and faith-based and non-profit organizations to form the Healthy Teens for a Better Mississippi initiative.

Today's meeting will be held at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Jackson County campus. It begins at 9:30am in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

WLOX News will be at today's town hall meeting. Look for this story later today on WLOX News and on WLOX.com.
