Charlotte Gets One From Eagles

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) _ John Maine pitched eight scoreless innings and Eric Shanks drove in two runs as Charlotte defeated Southern Mississippi 5-2 Sunday. The 49ers (10-12, 3-3 Conference USA) salvaged the final game of the three-game series. Maine (6-2) allowed seven hits and five walks while striking out eight. Brannon Hamby pitched the final inning, allowing three hits and two runs. Charlie Rogers (1-1) allowed six hits and four runs in 5 2-3 innings for Southern Miss (15-12, 2-4). Charlotte scored three in the third on sacrifice flies by Shanks and Brad Erwin and a single by Nick Blackmon to take a 5-0 lead. Rusty McDaniels and Shea Douglas each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Golden Eagles.
