GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - We are learning more details about a shooting that happened Thursday afternoon in Gulfport on the 3100 block of F Avenue.

Gulfport police Friday morning named 28-year-old Allen Christian Whitehead as a suspect in that shooting. Originally, Whitehead was wanted for questioning as a person of interest. He is now wanted for aggravated assault, and remains at large.  Gulfport police say Whitehead is armed and dangerous.

Witnesses heard gunshots around 4 p.m. Gulfport police say the crime started on 31st Street near F Avenue.

Witnesses at the scene say the altercation started off as a fight a couple of days ago. They said the two men did not like the way that fight ended, so another altercation started Thursday afternoon. That is when the shooting began.

Witnesses say the victim drove away after he was injured, and the shooter fired shots at his car. That is when the victim drove to the Dirt Cheap store and Pass Road and entered the business.

He was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Gulfport police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said Whitehead was last seen driving a black Nissan Altima.
