BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Beer lovers united Saturday evening at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center to sample craft beers from around the world. Here's a look inside the 5th annual Top of the Hops Beer Fest.

There is a popular quote often attributed to Benjamin Franklin that says, “Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy.” While there is no proof Franklin really said this, it doesn't mean people don't believe it.

“We love beer. Beer is good,” said one festival goer.

Timothy Mason agrees. He has attended the event the last three years.

“Man, I love it. I been loving it since I was younger,” said Mason.

These brewskie lovers paid anywhere from $35 to $75 for unlimited sampling of over 150 beers from around the world.

“I buy mine ahead of time when it's $35 cheaper, because I know I'm going to love it anyway. I have paid $45 too though, because it's good entertainment,” said Mason.

The 5th annual festival is designed to showcase the growing popularity of craft beers. With more than 50 breweries on tap, there were plenty of samples to go around.

“The craft beer scene is continuing to grow, so it's a great place to sample so many great beers in one location,” said Alex Colee, who helped organize the event.

Organizers say every year, they try to incorporate new things into the festival. Aside from the live entertainment, there was another way for people to get their groove on.

“This year we've added the silent disco. It's sponsored by Crooked Letter Brewery, and it's a place where patrons can go and put on a set of headphones and dance to music that's been programmed through an iPod,” said Colee.

The growing festival welcomes new patrons and new vendors every year, but the one thing that remains the same is the crowd's love for beer.

“My favorite part? The beer. Obviously the beer,” said one man.

As a safety precaution, there were cabs waiting out front for those who may have had too many samples to drive home.
