OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The Ocean Springs Yacht Club is now under the leadership of a new commodore. The club opened its doors in 1969. Since then, it has seen more than 40 commodores come and go.
Saturday, Cindy Moncreiff became the second female ever to take the position. She is taking over the role of Commodore from Roger Gardner.
The yacht club celebrated Moncreiff's new title with a change of watch ceremony. She says she is privileged to be a part of a club that allows women to take the esteemed position.
"Some have slightly different standards. Others are more relaxed. I think that having a woman behind the wheel is a good choice," said Moncreiff. "The legacy of the second female commodore ever is a great honor and a privilege, and I know that all of our members, they are putting their trust in me and the other members of my board."
The first woman to lead as commodore was Millie Page in 1983.
