Ole Miss Slips By Bama Again

(Oxford-AP) -- Matt Tolbert hit a two-run single in a six-run eighth inning as Ole Miss rallied to beat Alabama 8-to-7 today. Ole Miss sent 11 batters to the plate in the eighth. The Rebels cut the lead to 7-4 on an R-B-I single by Burney Hutchinson and a run-scoring ground out by Banks Robinson. Alabama (17-9, 4-4) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings, but saw its lead cut even more when third baseman Adam Pavkovich allowed a run to score on an error to extend the eighth inning. A bases-loaded walk scored Josh Christian to make it 7-6. Kavonski Chatman then came on in relief for starter Lance Cormier and was greeted by Tolbert's single into right to put the Rebels up 8-7. Alabama threatened in the top of the ninth. Brent Boyd hit a two-out single and Aaron Clark followed with a double to put runners on second and third. But Beau Hearod grounded out to second to end the game. The Rebels improved to 20-6-and-1 and 6-and-2 in the Southeastern Conference.
