HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Hancock County investigators have made more arrests in connection with a string of arsons involving several volunteer firefighters.
Friday, Marie Gil was arrested and charged with three counts of arson. Investigators said one of those fires was a woods fire on September 11, 2014 on Colly Road, a structure fire three days later on Third Street in the Clermont Harbor area, and a marsh fire on November 12, 2014 on North Railroad Avenue.
Marie Gil's warrants were served in Waveland around 6pm Friday. Her bond was set at a total of $150,000. That's $25,000 per woods fire, and $100,000 for the structure fire.
Gil is a former firefighter with the Clermont Harbor Volunteer Fire Department who recently joined the Kiln Volunteer Fire Department. She was into a 90 day probation period with that department when she was arrested last week on charges of arson and tampering with evidence.
On Thursday, Orenthial Smith was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact to arson from the September 11th woods fire. Smith is currently free on a $10,000 bond.
Crystal Mooneyhan was also charged with arson stemming from that same fire. She turned herself in without incident, and bond was set at $25,000.
Korri Jones, 29, of Pearlington and Leslie Cheramie, 39, of Bay St.Louis remain in jail. They were arrested last week on charges of conspiracy to commit arson and accessory after the fact.
