BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

Crews in Bay St. Louis are still working to remove a 170 foot long, 370,000 pound concrete bridge beam from an Interstate 10 on-ramp at Highway 603.

The work started around 5 p.m. Friday after the massive beam fell off a truck turning onto the westbound lanes of the interstate. Workers at the scene tell us the beam was loaded in Pass Christian and was making its way to New Orleans when the accident happened.

Officials tell us the beam had to be broken into smaller pieces in order to move. Moss Towing out of Bay St. Louis is now working to remove the rubble.

Mississippi Department of Transportation officials say the on-ramp should be reopened by 6 p.m. Saturday.
