HSSM Love Train Transport Program gets needed boost

HSSM Love Train Transport Program gets needed boost

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Gulf Coast Community Foundation's Jack A. and Gertrude W. Wilson Animal Welfare Fund will donate  $35,000 to the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

There will be a check presentation on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

This donation along with funds from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals completes funding for the Love Train program.

Officials with HSSM say the money will go toward a new large-scale truck, and trailer to increase  efficiency and effectiveness of HSSM's Love Train transport program.

Since there is an overabundance of animals in South Mississippi, the new truck will help transport about 100 animals at a time.

The program also helps eliminate animal euthanization.

Krystyna Schmitt with HSSM says the love train has helped saved over 7,000 lives since 2005.
