Mississippi Sea Wolves Begin Road Trek With 5-4 Win At Louisiana

The Mississippi Sea Wolves trying to secure the last remaining playoff slot in the ECHL Southern Conference beat the Louisiana IceGators in the Cajundome 5-4 Friday night.  Center Brent Gauvreau broke a 3-3 tie with two late goals in the 3rd period for the difference in the game.  Goalie Steve Briere was up to the task with Chuck Thuss missing this weekends road trip because of a death in his family.

The win keeps the Sea Wolves playoff hopes alive. The top 10 teams advance to the Southern Conference playoffs.  With four regular season games remaining Mississippi is tied with Baton Rouge for 11th place, two points behind Augusta for the final playoff berth.

Mississippi travels to Jackson Saturday night and visit Baton Rouge Sunday. The Sea Wolves close out the 2000-2001 regular season at home hosting Arkansas March 30 and Pensacola March 31.

Over the tenure of his athletic career, Picasso Nelson Jr. had been many things, including a member of a state championship football team at Oak Grove High School; starting fixture in the University of Southern Mississippi defensive backfield; multi-selection to Conference USA All-Academic team. What he never had been was a long-term spectator, forced to watch from the sidelines because of injury.
