SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Hundreds lined the streets in several South Mississippi cities Monday morning for Martin Luther King Jr. parades and remembrances.
In Gulfport, marching bands, dance groups, fancy motorcycles, and church groups were among those participating under bright, sunny skies. Rep. Sonya Williams-Barnes was the parade grand marshal. Children scrambled for beads and candy, while parents clapped to the beat of the passing bands.
The annual parade is a highlight of a slate of activities that accompany the MLK coast wide celebration and remembrance.
Jackson County Southern Christian Leadership Conference officials led the mile and half march in Moss Point. It ended at New Faith Missionary Baptist Church where a breakfast and special prayer service were held.
