Gulfport leaders inching closer to repairing hurricane damaged fishing piers

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - We're getting more details about when the City of Gulfport will repair its hurricane damaged fishing piers. On Tuesday's city council agenda is a resolution to hire J.E. Borries Inc. to repair the dilapidated piers.

That company submitted the lowest bid to repair Combs Pier, Moses Pier, Urie Pier and Westside Pier.

According to the contract Gulfport leaders must ratify Tuesday, the contractor will need four months to fix the first three piers. He'll need an additional month to make repairs to Westside Pier.

That's why a city spokesman says all four fishing piers will be repaired by Memorial Day.

The cost to fix what Hurricane Isaac damaged in 2012 is just under $850,000.
