BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A designated tree committee could be making its way back to the City of Biloxi. The city's planning commission approved the committee during its meeting Thursday afternoon.
Now, the idea of the committee must go before the Biloxi City Council for approval.
This decision comes after some Biloxi residents raised concerns about how the city was going about deciding whether to save or destroy protected trees to make way for commercial developments.
If approved by the city council, the tree committee will act as a liaison between city leaders and citizens concerning tree-related questions for large-scale development projects. The committee will also give recommendations to the city about the trees.
Officials say the committee will be formed within 30 days of its approval.
