Senquez Golson claims CFPA Elite Defensive Back Trophy

OXFORD, MS (WLOX) - Senquez Golson was a three-year starter at cornerback for the Ole Miss Rebels and enjoyed a stellar senior season. On Tuesday he claimed the 2014 College Football Performance Awards Elite Defensive Trophy.

The award honors Golson for the top career defensive back performance over the past four seasons of FBS football.

The former Pascagoula High School standout in football and baseball ended the 2014 season with a nation-best 16 career interceptions.

He became the first consensus and unanimous All-American at Ole Miss since 2008 and led the SEC and finished second in the nation with a school record-tying 10 interceptions in 2014.  All Rebels fans will remember his game saving interception that secured a 23-17 Ole Miss victory over Alabama.

Twenty-eight individual winners of the CFPA awards have been first round NFL Draft selections.

The last Ole Miss player to claim a CFPA trophy was Rebels running back Dexter McCluster in 2009.
