Gulfport police ask for public's help to find shooting suspect

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Gulfport police are asking for your help to locate the man they say shot someone at Ashton Park Apartments Saturday night.

Police Chief Leonard Papania said officers responded to the shooting at the complex located on Cuandet Road around 8 p.m. That is where police found one man suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for those injuries. Sgt. Damon McDaniel said that man was still in the hospital Sunday.

Papania said it is not clear what led to the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are now looking for Michael Dwayne Thornton, Jr., 24, on a charge of aggravated assault. He is described as a black male standing 6' and weighing 180 pounds.
