BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Pascagoula and Moss Point played the kind of high energy, physical basketball game at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum you'd expect from two Jackson County rivals. The action was spirited. The contest was nip and tuck.
Moss Point had a one point halftime lead. After three, the Tigers were able to extend that lead to 41-39.
Moss Point's Marcus Brown gave the Tigers a quick five point lead with an old fashioned three point play.
Pascagoula got it back to one when Darius Johnson threw a gorgeous alley oop pass to Illyan Scott. It was 44-43 with 5:24 left. The Panthers' Jaylen Smith put Pascagoula back on top with his own three point play. That came with 4:55 remaining.
Almost four minutes later, Pascagoula got its next points. Smith banked in a three from in front of his bench. The game was knotted at 49 with 1:00 left. And that was the score as this Hoopsfest battle went to overtime.
Moss Point senior guard Marcus Watson scored the Tigers' first four points, on a shot in the lane, and then a layup off a steal. The second basket came with 2:11 on the OT clock.
Moss Point scored 11 points in overtime, and upended Pascagoula 60-55.
