BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Harrison Central came out of the locker room determined to make sure this wouldn't be a lost weekend. The Red Rebels were down six at the half against a depleted Gautier basketball team. And they were coming off a Friday night loss against Gulfport.
Head coach Boo Hardy deployed a full court press after halftime that turned a 22-16 deficit into a 25-24 lead midway through the third quarter. Harrison Central and Gautier were tied at 29 when the fourth quarter started.
In that last quarter, the length of the Gators proved to be the difference. Gautier leaned on 6'6" Alex Batiste, 6'3" Mike McWilliams and an active zone defense to dominate the paint on both ends of the court. Their size created mismatches that Gautier exploited.
Batiste scored 17. The Gators outscored the Red Rebels by 13, beating Harrison Central 46-33.
Game number four at the 21st annual Hoopsfest features D'Iberville and Pass Christian at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00.
