Long Beach raced out to an 11 point lead after three quarters and then held off St. Patrick 75-53 in game one of Hoopsfest. The Bearcats were paced by Devahn Englund. He poured in 23, mostly from behind the three point line.
The Fighting Irish got within seven early in the fourth quarter. But, a series of made free throws by Long Beach propelled the Bearcats to a Saturday morning victory.
This is the 21st annual Hoopsfest at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Eight high school games are on today's schedule. Game number two features Bay High and Hancock. It tips off at 11:00.
