JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - New controversy in the legal battle over the failing Singing River Health System pension plan. Attorneys Earl Denham and Harvey Barton, who represent the plaintiffs in a suit against the hospital system, have issued a cease and desist letter to Singing River Financial. It demands the hospital system stop shredding documents related to the failing pension plan.
Barton told WLOX News the decision to send the letter came after hearing rumors of document shredding.
Meanwhile, the hospital issued a response Friday night: "This is an absurd and outrageous accusation, clearly designed as a staged event by plaintiff's attorneys. We have not and will not shred or destroy any material pertinent to the current retirement program litigation. We are fully cooperating with all requests for records from our governing bodies and protecting those documents consistent with the law. We are certain that once the facts are revealed, these baseless attorney accusations- which serve only to waste precious resources and disparage our organization --will be revealed for the media stunts and reckless accusations that they are."
