LATIMER, MS (WLOX) - WLOX News has confirmed a South Mississippi woman died Thursday when the catamaran she was vacationing on capsized and sank off Costa Rica's Pacific Coast.
Media outlets in Costa Rica report the 100 foot boat, Pura Vida Princess, was carrying 99 vacationers for an all-inclusive day trip to Tortuga Island, but things took a turn for the worse.
About 30 minutes after leaving the dock, the ship issued a distress call and quickly sank in high winds and rough seas.
Edna Oliver, 68, of Latimer, and two other passengers died. 106 people, including the catamaran's crew members, were rescued.
Friends of Oliver tell WLOX News she was an active member of the D'Iberville Senior Citizen Center and the Dixie Line Dancers.
