BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The East Biloxi Community Collaborative is celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. all month long.
Thursday, as part of the events, several youngsters got a lesson they would not be able to learn from a history book.
Seniors read and spent time talking with the children from Jabez Education Learning Center about what things were like when they were growing up. This week, about 200 students enjoyed sharing time with the seniors.
"I think we should start here with them now, so when they grow up, they will know that they have not always been able to go to that bathroom, to go to that restaurant, to sit on that bus, where we sit now. I experienced it, and I know," said Willie Jean McSwain, a volunteer reader.
