Pearl River County authorities searching for house arrest escapee

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Authorities in Pearl River County are searching for a man they say removed his house arrest ankle bracelet and is now on the run.

According to the Pearl River County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Rodney Smith, 39, was sentenced to house arrest with the Mississippi Department of Corrections after being convicted of grand larceny.

Officials say Smith removed his ankle bracelet and ran when deputies were on the way to arrest him on Dead End Road in the Millcreek/Henleyfield community. Officials say according to Mississippi statute, Smith is considered an escapee.

According to MDOC, Smith is described as a white male standing 6' 0” and weighing 174 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

Pearl River County Sheriff's officials say he could be traveling in a red Dodge pickup truck with the Mississippi disabled tag 95023.
