GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - It's just a few days into the New Year, and people are already gearing up for the next big thing, which is Mardi Gras.
"We're trying to do every season. We just got finished with Christmas, just took down all the Christmas stuff, and it's time for Mardi Gras now," said Jacques Gillian.
The Gillians aren't the only ones getting ready for the carnival season a little early. Ashton Ladner says the Mardi Gras Supplies store in Gulfport has already had some pretty good business.
"It's been steady. It's picking up every day," said Ladner.
A lot of early shoppers, like Shawn Guider, are just buying decorations to deck out their homes or businesses.
"I'm buying lights and ribbon. Going to make some bows," Guider said.
Guider owns a store in Biloxi, and says she likes for it to be festive for the different seasons and holidays.
"What I had from last year is two years old, so it was time to renew and refresh and get everything pretty," said Guider.
The massive supply store carries everything from masks to decorations, and of course, beads. Ladner says nothing compares to how much one person will spend on throws.
"People will come spend anywhere from $500 to $1, 000," said Ladner.
While business is picking up daily, Ladner says they are just enjoying the calm before the storm, which will come near the end of the month.
"It is like Black Friday for a couple weeks straight. It's insane," said Ladner.
This year, Fat Tuesday will fall on Feb. 17.
