LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX)
In two seasons in Starkville, the 6-2, 235 pound linebacker has 84 tackles, 46 this season with three interceptions. Those three picks were key factors in helping lead Mississippi State to a dominating win over Texas A&M.
His mom and dad, Richard and Melissa Brown, made sure Richie would maintain a high level of excellence on the field and in the classroom.
Richard Brown said, "I'm really proud of Richie keeping the balance with SEC football, maintaining his schedule, taking Industrial Engineering, being SEC All-Academic. I believe three semesters in a row up there with a 3.73.
Richie Brown made 209 tackles as a high school senior. His mom, Melissa, says Richie would love to play in the NFL.
Melissa said, "It that happens that's awesome. We don't tell him you should to this, you should do that. We let him make his own decisions. He keeps me on my knees praying because it's exciting but football is a dangerous sport."
Richie Brown is expected to receive his college diploma next summer. Getting his degree is important and if he gets a chance to play in the NFL he will welcome the challenge.
