BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The ride home for Christmas was relatively safe. That's what can be inferred from the Mississippi Highway Patrol's holiday enforcement report.
That report says troopers worked 17 wrecks along the coast between Tuesday and Thursday. Just two people suffered injuries in those accidents. And the MHP says it made four DUI arrests in South Mississippi.
Most importantly, nobody died on Mississippi highways over Christmas. According to MHP spokesman Johnny Poulos, "We attribute this to the responsible decisions made by motorist traveling the roadways, public notification by the media, and the high visibility of law enforcement throughout the period. It also shows that a fatality free holiday period is possible when everyone works together to ensure safe travel for all."
The MHP wrote 1,500 tickets between December 23 and Christmas night.
