BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - An inmate who escaped from a prison in Wilkinson County is back behind bars.
Authorities confirm Jeffery McWhorter was captured around midnight, not far from the Woodville prison where he was locked up. A Mississippi Department of Corrections news release says McWhorter was on the run for almost eight hours. Once captured, he was taken to a prison in Rankin County, 150 miles from the southwest corner of the state where McWhorter was serving a burglary sentence.
He reportedly broke out from the Wilkinson County Community Work Center at 4:25 p.m. on Christmas day. How he broke free has not been determined. The 20-year-old was serving a two year burglary sentence. Along with the two years he is already serving, McWhorter faces an additional five year sentence, if convicted of escape.
