ST. MARTIN, MS (WLOX) - It's a Christmas morning tradition. Santa delivers gifts for everyone to enjoy. There's also another tradition. Drivers with American Medical Response make special deliveries as well. It's perhaps the greatest gift of all though, the gift of being home for the holidays.
This was a delivery that was handled with great care. Lois Mays is coming home. Once inside, the festivities began.
Daughter Hattie knew this day was special.
“Oh, I'm happy and it's a blessing to have mom here at my home for Christmas. It's a blessing,” Hattie exclaimed.
For Lois, being surrounded by family was the perfect Christmas gift.
“I feel so happy to be here for Christmas with my family. I love it, celebrating with my family,” Lois beamed.
"Of course," she said what's Christmas without the tradition feast? Turkey and dressing, cakes, everything baby, red velvet and all that will be good.”
With Lois being back home for Christmas, it makes it an entire family affair. Even the son-in-law Calvin Pierce is joining in with the joy.
“I feel good. Anything that makes my wife happy is going to make me happy. She wanted mama home and we tried to have her home for the holidays and we're very happy and blessed to have her here today,” Calvin said.
Also blessed are the AMR employees. It feels good to deliver such Christmas cheer. Dan Mock is one of them.
“It kind of warms my heart to see the faces on all the family members when the family member arrives home and it just brings real joy to all of us,” Mock explained.
It's a joy that made this Christmas a bright one indeed.
In addition to Lois, seven other nursing center residents also made it home for the holidays, thanks to AMR. They all spent about six hours visiting with family. It's the 40th year the company has sponsored the program.
