Bulldogs flying to Florida for their Orange Bowl adventure

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi State's football program reached lofty heights in 2014. For more than a third of the season, the Bulldogs were the nation's top ranked football team.

A 10-2 campaign earned Dan Mullen's squad a top 10 ranking, and a New Year's Eve invitation to the Orange Bowl in Miami.

Bulldog football players arrive in Miami later today, and immediately start practicing for their bowl game against Georgia Tech.

The Orange Bowl is one of the New Year's Six bowl games. The other games in that prestigious pool include the Peach Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl. Ole Miss will be in the Peach Bowl versus TCU. That game is also New Year's Eve.

The biggest games of the New Year's Six are the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl. Those venues will host this year's college football semifinals. Oregon and Florida State play in the Rose Bowl. Alabama and Ohio State meet in the Sugar Bowl. The winners of those games play January 12 in the national championship game.

WLOX will air a 30 minute special about Mississippi State and Ole Miss and their trips to play in the New Year's Six. Tyler Bouldin will be in Miami to cover the Bulldogs and their Orange Bowl adventure. The Raycom News Network's Chris Hudgison will travel to Atlanta to cover Ole Miss.

Be sure to watch "Bowl Bound From Mississippi" December 30 at 6:30 p.m. on WLOX CBS. If you'd like to comment on either bowl game, use #MSBOWLBOUND on Twitter.
