JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Cakes by Tina is closed on Mondays, but that doesn't mean the employees are not working. Quite the opposite. Dough is being rolled, and the mixer is whirring away.
"Things are pretty busy," owner Tina Bishop said. "All the little elves are working today, making cookies and pies and cakes. I'm getting ready for all those holiday orders that we have on Tuesday and Wednesday."
Now we all know that this is the busiest time of the year for retailers of all types, clothing, accessories, and electronics. But it's also the busiest for bakeries. And it has to do with the clock.
"All those people who run out of time baking their own goodies tend to call us and see what we have to offer. School parties, work parties, things like that."
And she added you can even tell a Christmas fib if you want. "They can tell everyone they made it themselves. We don't mind that, we don't mind that at all."
At French Kiss Pastries, the cash register is getting a workout and a little goodie called a Yule Log is flying off the shelves.
"We've had multiple orders every day for Christmas Eve, a lot of Yule Logs, a lot of strawberry bavarians, custom cakes," Misty Vanvrancken said.
At Torta Dolce bakery, the blenders are working overtime. This is the make it or break it time of the year for bakeries and owner Chris Benigno.
"It's pretty much from October, right at the Halloween mark, through King Cake season is when most bakeries that do these kinds of operation make the bulk of their business. So we try and stay really, really busy with lots of options this year," Benigno explained.
Bakery owners say the bulk of their deliveries will be made on Christmas Eve. Then, it will be time for a much needed break.
