BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Old St. Nick actually laced up his skates and hit the ice with hundreds of children Sunday afternoon. In just a few days, Santa will be busy loading his sleigh with gifts for Christmas, so before the chaos starts, he took a little break for some ice skating.

“Oh, he's an old pro at it. I mean, he's from the North Pole. He's got to be able to skate,” said co-organizer Malcolm Jones.

Believe it or not, Santa has got some really good skating skills, but not everyone wants to give him credit, like Mikenzy Dubrow who says he's just an OK skater.

Old St. Nick wasn't the only celebrity there. Queen Elsa from Frozen even made an appearance. The Dyess sisters had an assumption about why she was there.

“I don't really know, but all I know is that there's that Disney on Ice, and it's the Frozen theme and maybe it's because of that,” said Katie Dyess.

Those who organize the annual ice skating event at the Coast Coliseum say it's always a popular family event, especially when Santa is involved.

“You would be surprised. I mean, we're turning away a couple of hundred every session. I mean, you can see how busy it is out here right now. They're coming out here like crazy in droves,” said Jones.

The event was open to skaters of all different skill levels. Some were pretty good. Others needed a little practice before they got the hang of it.

“The first time, I had a couple of falls, and them I just got up and it's not hard anymore,” said Reese Dyess.

Overall, the highlight of the event was getting to spend some time on the ice with Santa Claus himself.

“I think it's cool because it's Santa. It's Santa,” Katie said.

Ice skating at the coliseum continues until Jan. 4. For a look at the complete schedule, follow this link: http://mscoastcoliseum.com/events/publicskating.
