BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) -

One man is recovering from injuries and a suspect is in custody after an overnight shooting in Bay St. Louis. That is according to Police Chief Mike DeNardo.

Authorities tell us gunfire erupted outside of Buoys Bar on the corner of South Beach Boulevard and Court Street around 2:45 a.m.

DeNardo said Trey Tillery, of Gulfport, opened fire and shot Brandon Treadway, of Bay St. Louis, in the foot and knee.

Buoys Bar owner Roger Caplinger said he jumped into action when he heard the gunshots outside of his establishment. He said he walked outside and saw Treadway on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds and Tillery running from the crime scene.

That's when Caplinger said he and Jason Lombardo, the bar's DJ, took off after Tillery.

“If he was nutty enough to shoot the first guy, he would probably be nutty enough to shoot other people,” said Caplinger. “I didn't think it was a good idea to let him get away.”

Caplinger said Tillery managed to fire a round towards Lombardo before they caught up to him, but luckily he missed.

DeNardo said Caplinger and Lombardo took Tillery down, took away his gun and held him until police arrived.

Officials say Tillery is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon. DeNardo said there could be additional aggravated assault charges pending eyewitness accounts.

DeNardo said Treadway is recovering from his injuries at Gulfport Memorial Hospital.

Full-time Waveland city workers, primarily police officers, who take-home vehicles outside of the city limits could see a change to the city's policy soon. City leaders said the current policy is antiquated and needs to be rewritten into something that would benefit both the officers and the taxpayers.
